Are Digital Candles OK?
A digital or electronic yahrzeit light is considered fully acceptable because Jewish law does not require a specific medium (oil, wax, bulb) for the memorial light. The purpose is remembrance, not the physical form of the flame.
Some memorial parks and synagogues even offer official digital yahrzeit candles as part of their services, treating them as a meaningful option for observance.
The Federation of Jewish Men's Clubs created a virtual candle app specifically for situations where a real candle cannot be lit (dorms, assisted living, hotels, travel). They describe it as a "meaningful way to honor those we remember".
